How is the Gonstead Method Different from Other Chiropractics?
Life is busy. From the moment you hop out of bed in the morning, you’re on the go. Chances are, the last thing on your mind during the hustle and bustle of your day is your posture. Between the commute to work and sitting at a desk or standing on your feet for 8 hours a day, your spine takes a serious hit.
We’re seeing more and more cases of chronic pain, particularly in the joints and back, and early onset of arthritis and other related issues. One of the best ways to alleviate pain and treat posture issues is with regular chiropractic visits.
Not all chiropractors are created equally. The Gonstead Chiropractic Method is one of the most advanced chiropractic techniques and the one we practice at our clinic.
So what makes the Gonstead Method so special? A Gonstead chiropractor does not just do a basic exam of a patient’s back to determine the problem areas. Instead, a Gonstead chiropractor uses five different criteria in their assessment to get a more thorough analysis of the patient’s needs. The criteria they use are:
- Static Palpation
- Motion Palpation
- X-Ray Analysis
Visualization is the first step in a Gonstead chiropractic assessment. These chiropractors have been trained to carefully examine a person’s posture when standing, sitting, walking and lying down to determine what problems are occurring. Even the subtlest shift in a person’s weight as they walk may be indicative of an underlying issue.
The second criterion, Instrumentation, involves the use of a Nervoscope. This device is used to scientifically measure the heat distribution on the spine. If the heat levels are not evenly distributed, then this could indicate nerve or tissue damage and inflammation. This process is very informative in terms of helping with diagnosis, and is painless for the patient– it just feels like two fingers following the path of the spine.
The next two criteria involve the process of Palpation, which is essentially just feeling the spine when it is stationary and again when it is moving and bending into various postures. This allows chiropractors to physically diagnosis issues like swelling and tenderness, and assess the patient’s range of movement.
What really sets Gonstead chiropractors apart from others is the final criterion, which is the X-ray Analysis. Gonstead chiropractors use a series of x-rays to get a full picture of the patient’s spine. By analyzing the entire spine structure, chiropractors can identify misalignments in the vertebrae, recent fractures and rule out pathologies.
Gonstead chiropractors provide an enhanced treatment approach. Their process is more in-depth than other forms of chiropractic medicine because of its advanced, scientific approach. Gonstead chiropractors are specially trained to recognize what part of the spine is causing the problem immediately, so they can begin treating the issue.
